As we come to the end of the year we just want to say a heartfelt thank you to all of you who have contributed to a successful year. With the help of our growing team, this year we have placed hundreds of candidates with employers and expanded into several new industries in construction, hospitality and more.We are looking forward to further broadening our reach next year, so if you know of anyone who has experience in an industry with employment shortages in New Zealand, then put them in touch with us. We are winding up this week for a break over Christmas, and we’d like to wish you all a safe and happy festive season! We’ll be back on January 6th, but in case of emergency you can contact Warrick Ryan (021826201 email: ) or Andrea Ryan (02102682815 email: Otherwise, put your feet up and enjoy the break!

“While we have been enjoying some warmer weather in the Philippines this last week, we see that the heavens have opened up for the farmers for some welcome rain that should keep the grass growing well into January. We want to say maraming salamat for your support in 2019 and look forward to the ongoing growth and development of new industries for 2020. Wishing everyone a very merry Christmas and to the hard workers far from their families – maligayang pasko sa ating lahat.”

Gracias from our family to yours!

Regulatory changes in immigration & employment

This year has been one of change in both immigration settings and employment regulations, and that has made it challenging for both recruits and employers alike. Below we recap some of the changes and their impact going forward.

  • The minimum wage is increasing to $18.90 as of 1st April 2020.
  • The potential legalisation of marijuana is something that is on the mind of many employees. The impact on the work force could be significant if it does occur, and employees will need to know what the regulations are around workplace health and safety. We will be covering this issue in 2020, so watch this space for updates.

This year has seen some significant changes to immigration settings as the Government seeks to find a balance between supporting immigrants and recruiting for job shortages.

  • One of the key changes is that from mid-2020 the current system of assessing jobs based on skill-bands will change to a system that classifies jobs as low- or mid-skilled based on whether they are paid above or below the median wage.
  • Additionally, from the end of 2020, sector agreements will begin to be negotiated for employing migrant workers.
  • Workers currently on low-skilled Visas will have the right to bring their families to New Zealand on Visitor Visas, for longer terms (i.e. the length of visa of the principal applicant).
  • Many of these updates are still in the design process and will be rolled out in stages over 2020 and 2021 – we will keep you updated as this process progresses.

New Year’s Resolution: Sort Your Work Issues

No job is perfect, but choosing to address those work niggles can mean you enjoy your job far more. CC Recruitment is in a unique position to observe the difficulties New Zealand employers have securing great staff; we also often see employers lose great employees to other businesses, without knowing the reason why.

Often employers are unaware of the struggles migrant workers have in New Zealand workplaces, and employees don’t know how to get their boss to understand their difficulties.

So we’ve done some research into how migrant workers can help ensure their employer understands their needs and makes their workplace an excellent place to be. Read the blog to find out more.
